Wetzel Selected for Amarillo Women’s Network Award

Dr. Kathryn Wetzel, chair of the Department of Mathematics, Sciences and Engineering at Amarillo College, is soon to be honored with a Career Achievement Award courtesy of the Amarillo Women’s Network.

The Career Achievement Award honors women who make major career advancements or receive recognition in their professions during a calendar year.

This award will be the second for Wetzel in recent months. She was named Outstanding Community Colleges Professor of the Year in November by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. That acclaim was due, in part, to her establishment in 2005 of AC’s award-winning Math Outreach Center.

Wetzel, who joined the faculty in 1986, collected her prestigious national honor during a luncheon Nov. 17 at the Newseum in Washington D.C.

This latest accolade will be presented by the Amarillo Women’s Network on Thursday, March 8 during an awards program beginning at 6 p.m. in the Skyline Room at Amarillo National Bank. A reception beginning at 5:30 p.m. will precede the event, and it is open to those who wish to attend, however reservations are required and seating is limited.

Contact Donna Anderson at 378-2804 to RSVP.
